The Barbie Movie Soundtrack
The highly anticipated Barbie movie is just around the corner, set to hit theatres on July 21st. The media buzz is at an all-time high, but there’s one thing that music fans can’t stop talking about — the movie’s soundtrack.
The unveiling of the top-secret featured celebs has been gradual, keeping fans on the edge of their seats, and fueling even more excitement.
And with Mark Ronson at the helm, we have every reason to be excited. The award-winning producer is renowned for his chart-topping collaborations, and his involvement in the Barbie movie soundtrack promises something special.
A first of its kind?
Movie soundtracks have been incredibly vital in shaping movie culture for decades. We all remember those iconic tracks like “Everything I Do” by Bryan Adams, “Circle of Life” by Elton John, and “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion. These songs have become ingrained in our memories, forever linked to the films they accompany.
But now, the new Barbie movie soundtrack is taking a different approach, bringing a fresh wave of modern talent to the forefront.
What sets this soundtrack apart is the anticipation surrounding which song will define the movie. With so many talented artists contributing their unique sound, it’s almost like a friendly battle for supremacy. Will it be a catchy pop anthem or a heartfelt ballad?
In fact, this could very well be the first of its kind — a soundtrack album that showcases the diverse talents of the modern music scene, with each song vying for the chance to become synonymous with the Barbie movie.

No Barbie Girl?!
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room, the absence of the classic 1997 Aqua track, “Barbie Girl.”
It’s a decision that has sparked some controversy among fans, although it is rumoured Nicki and Ice Spice’s duet will sample the OG hit.
Even if you aren’t a 90s baby, It’s hard to deny the impact this song had back in its heyday.
“Barbie Girl” remained at number one for an impressive four weeks, and continued to rule the radio charts, living rooms, and British holiday clubs for many weeks, months and years later.
Fast forward to today, and the breakthrough hit by the Danish-Norwegian Europop group is still beloved by many. It has recently achieved triple platinum status, thanks in part to the marketing efforts surrounding the new Barbie movie. It just goes to show the enduring popularity of this 90s music chart sensation.
New anthems in the making?
Only time will tell, but if Robin Hood, Lion King and Titanic are anything to go by, one thing is certain — the impact of a powerful movie soundtrack should not be underestimated.
So, while movie fans count down the days until the new Barbie movie hits theatres, and music fans eagerly anticipate the release of its accompanying soundtrack, I’ll leave you with a couple of important questions-
Do these new songs have the potential to become iconic?
And, if so,
which one will define the movie for years to come?
The album will be available worldwide on all streaming platforms on Friday 21st July alongside the movie’s release.
